I was one of ten designers in the area asked to create a Tablescape for Settings lll, the Rockford Women’s Club Fundraiser held at Forest Hills Country Club this past Monday. 300+ women came for lunch, shopping in Pop-Up Boutiques and to admire 10 tablescapes and get inspired. Although I had been asked a couple of months prior, due to an awesome full schedule of brides and events I had not ‘landed’ on what I would do for this event. I have worked with a couple of the other designers in previous years, so had been in their homes and knew their exquisite taste and boundless creativity. I also knew that Village Green and O’Fallons were among the those designing, so even though I didn’t know what my design would be, I knew the company I was keeping. I found myself five days out from Set-Up and six days out from the event with no plan or idea on design — I was feeling stress instead of the joy that creating and designing usually bring to me. Then in the midst of something unrelated, I remembered the angel. The angel I had spotted four years ago at a flea market and knew I needed and knew would be perfect for making something extra special…’eventful’– if you will. I went to him and as I carried him to the dining room, it happened —> FINALLY! The inspiration I needed! I began shopping around my home, pulling from the Dining Room, Living Room, Front Porch, Lower Patio and Pantry for old taper candles and unpolished brass candle stands, for gold lined dessert plates, bowls and champagne flutes, cake pedestals, lanterns, garden globes and the little cherubs which usually sit around the framed photos of our SugarBugars. Then I began the search for a unique linen combination. Anna of Beautiful Day Linens pointed me in the direction of websites that could be sources. I found a couple table linens that would typically be unlikely choices to bring together (I love the unexpected in a design) but if I was right about what I was envisioning from the tiny little square samples on my computer, this combination would inspire the ‘lunching ladies’ (another favorite thing for me to do). I called a couple co-vendor/friends to see if they’d be willing to help with some finishing touches–>Thanks to Event Floral for the beautiful fresh garland, to Beautiful Day Linens for tracking down my hard to find selections, The Sweetery for the Pumpkin Cupcakes, Kates Pie Shop for the Cherry Cutie Pie and Rebecca Johnson for Scribing my Chalkboard.
